Kathleen Jacobs Installation Takes Over the Woods at The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home

Kathleen Jacobs | The Mount

Artist Kathleen Jacobs, known for leaving canvasses wrapped around trees for upwards of three years, has done just that at The Mount, Edith Wharton's historic home, in Lenox, MA.

Her signature paintings use tree bark as the surface on which to begin her lines and marks. Using a unique technique known as frottage, the canvasses endure seasonal weather patterns and bark textures as Jacobs applies paint and pressure. These resulting works engage both with the natural world and late 20th century minimalism.
